I was commissioned to design a two-minute projection mapping installation for the water tower atop Carmichael Lynch headquarters. Unlike traditional multimedia works in my portfolio, this project presented the unique challenge of creating a purely visual experience without audible sound components. Rather than developing visuals to complement an audio track, I implemented an innovative technical approach—utilizing the frequency patterns of a musical composition to generate the visual elements through advanced particle simulation.

The particle generator was programmed to respond directly to specific frequency ranges within the composition, creating high-contrast visual elements that mimicked the physical behavior of water responding to sound vibration. This technique evolved throughout the projection, transitioning into sophisticated constellation patterns that appeared to navigate across the cylindrical surface of the water tower against the night sky.

The environmental context imposed significant technical constraints, particularly ambient light pollution from surrounding urban sources. These conditions necessitated a strategic minimalist approach to both form and color palette. The visual elements were methodically reduced to their most essential components with maximized contrast values to ensure optimal visibility from street level. This technical solution balanced artistic expression with the practical requirements of large-scale urban projection, creating a visually compelling installation visible throughout the surrounding area.
